I cooked a whole chicken in it. And it turned out delicious!However the skin didn't brown and just slid off the bird. I had to broil it for a few minutes in the oven. If it was a turkey during the holidays, I don't think I would be able to do so. It is not easy to carry around a whole turkey and broil it, while there are pies and biscuits in the oven. The part I liked the best about this roaster is the buffet feature! This was the main reason I bought it. All regular buffet servers are just warming trays with some very small and shallow pans and clear plastic lids. This roaster had deeper pans that they are very sturdy and made of good material. The lid is not plastic either, which is good. I had rice, beans and chicken in each of the pans and nothing got stuck or got burnt. I kept the roaster at under 200 degrees.
